I have used Brother laser printers for years. I decided on this particular model, mostly because it offered just exactly what my small business and home office needs were. I have no use for a fax machine any more, so this printer and scanner was really all I wanted, and it seemed like a pretty reasonable value. I have tested it several times with various paper media. I print normal text documents, some with graphics, envelopes, and voucher checks regularly. This printer has handled everything really well so far. There was a bit of a learning curve with some odd sized envelopes, but I’m pretty sure my struggle was with the software I was using, not the printer. I did experience a couple of situations where the machine said there was a paper jam when using the front tray to print an envelope, but it was easily resolved. The quality and clarity of the print seems great to me. You can adjust the print density, toner ecology, etc. pretty easily. The machine itself has a heavy duty and durable feel to it, and I’m happy with how it has been working so far for me.

WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY: I was reading other people’s comments about having issues with this. I am going to share what I found worked best for me, and maybe that will be helpful for others. Since I have owned and used several Brother printers in the past, I’ve learned that getting the machine on my wireless network is easiest by simply using the machine’s console push buttons. I know in the literature it says it should be discoverable by going through the steps outlined in the instructions after downloading their software. However, I’ve never had consistent luck with that process. I still download the software to make sure I have the right drivers and features loaded, but when it comes to getting the printer on my network, I just use the machine’s console to find my router and then type in the password. It’s a tiny bit tedious typing the password using the console buttons, but I’ve never had it not work for me. Honestly, seconds after doing that, the wireless printer was discoverable and available to all of my devices. I was able to print from my CPU, laptop, phone, tablet, etc. without any issues. I know that’s not the only way of setting up the wireless functionality on these printers, but it’s what I’ve learned causes the least amount of stress and frustration. I hope that’s helpful. They provide details on how to accomplish this method in the accompanying literature that comes with the printer.

At this point, I have no reason not to give this five stars. If something shoud change down the road, I’ll be sure to update this review.

I bought this printer for my home office and I LOVE it. It would be better if it could print color, but for my purposes black and white only was fine. It makes printing double sided a breeze which I was worried about. The scanner worked great for me, both through the feeder and putting the item directly on the scanner. The ink refills werent overly expensive. I can’t remember exactly how much I spent on replacement ink but I remember it being reasonable. I would buy replacement ink right away though because it doesn’t come with much to start. It was easy to get it hooked to wifi. This printer takes a lot of power though. My overhead lights would flash when the printer came on, so be prepared for that if you live in an old house. It’s pretty big. I definitely needed a separate table area for it. I would buy this again. The print quality was great and the ease of use made it well worth the expense.

Well, I’ve used the machine for a handful of times only though, here are some pros and cons I found:

Pros:
– the auto feeder works great for scanning.
– so many options for different quality outputs.
– prints fast as soon as data received.
– print set ups are with abundant of options too.
– came with a good value of ink.
– looks sturdy.

Cons:
– it’s heavy and big so space matters.
– connectivity is an issue I faced and needed to take other people’s help. Although both my laptop and iPhone are connected to the machine, Still haven’t been able to send scanned items to the laptop/PC and only goes to my phone which is weired.
– a bit pricey, but that’s ok if it works well in the long run.

Great print quality and very quiet. Single side of duplexing is a major disappointment. Otherwise a very good black and white laser printer. Doesn’t get used very often of course, but it’s easy to use. Have not tried scanning directly to email over Wi-Fi however. It is large and does weigh a lot. Overall, a good value for your money if you need a basic black and white laser printer for your home office or small business.

I ordered this printer for my home, although it’s probably better suited for a small business size-wise. However, after giving it some thought, I realize that almost everything I print is in black and white and color printers have let me down a bit in the past in terms of ink quality and cartridges.

Not a problem for this printer! Not only is the print quality fantastic every single time, but because it uses a toner cartridge instead of ink cartridges, I can be sure that the quality will continue. I’ve had this printer for several weeks and never once had a paper jam.

Set up was a breeze! I took the advice of someone else’s review and set the network up from the printer itself rather than from a device. It was a little more time consuming, but I have not had one single problem printing from my phone, tablet, laptop, PC.. no problems at ALL with connectivity. Huge plus!

It’s larger than most printers, but still takes up about the same amount of desk space as most. That is to say, it’s taller than most printers. But for the quality, I don’t mind a bit! I’m surprised at the price of this printer because for what you get, I would think one would pay much more.

Bear in mind, I was highly skeptical about this machine. However, it seems I made a great decision and it promises to be a workhorse for many years to come. Should I experience any problems, I will update this review; but so far, it’s nothing but perfection.

Highly recommended for folks who print most often with black. Easy five stars!
